‘I want to play Test cricket’, Suryavanshi expressed his heartfelt feelings after making a splash in IPL

Delhi: 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created a stir with his batting in IPL 2026. Suryavanshi became the highest run scorer, leaving behind legendary players like Virat Kohli-Shubman Gill. Seeing Suryavanshi’s batting, many veterans talked about giving him a chance in Test cricket also. Even Sachin Tendulkar expressed his desire to see him play in Test cricket. Now Suryavanshi himself has told that he wants to play Test cricket.

Suryavanshi is practicing hard with the red ball

While talking on Star Sports, Suryavanshi said that he has been practicing hard with the red ball for some time. During this, Suryavanshi, while talking to Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh, said that he has got the freedom to play aggressively in T20 cricket. That’s why he plays in this style. However, he said that in the coming time, he will try to play ground shots in the ODI series.

Suryavanshi said, “Yes, I will have to play the ball on the ground because my next tournament is in ODI format. I have practiced a lot with the red ball. Till now people have not seen me playing like this, but soon they will also see it.”

Suryavanshi further said, “People think that I like to hit big shots on every ball, but this is T20 cricket and the coach gives me the freedom to bat openly and aggressively. I hit shots only on those balls on which I am confident that I can score runs. I do not attack every ball out of compulsion.”

I want to play test cricket- Suryavanshi

Suryavanshi has expressed his desire to play Test cricket. Suryavanshi said, “I want to play Test cricket, because my father has also taught me that this is the biggest and highest format of cricket. I have also played Test cricket, but have not got a chance to play many matches yet. I got limited opportunities in Ranji Trophy too and had to face a lot of challenges there. However, I will continue to work hard on this aspect of my game.”

Suryavanshi has made a good start in ODI and T20 cricket. He has dominated the IPL. In ODI cricket, during the Under-19 World Cup, he batted brilliantly in the final against England. But his performance in first class matches has not been anything special so far. Suryavanshi played 8 first class matches between January 2024 and November 2025. During this period he scored only 207 runs at an average of 17.25. Although Suryavanshi is not very old yet. Also, he is now continuously practicing with the red ball. Suryavanshi will definitely be seen playing in Ranji Trophy in the coming time. Fans will hope that he will create a stir in Test cricket like ODI and T20.

Suryavanshi was the highest run scorer in IPL 2026. Suryavanshi scored 776 runs at an average of 48.50. Suryavanshi scored five half-centuries and one century. Suryavanshi hit 72 sixes in this season. Which is a record. He broke Chris Gayle’s record of hitting most sixes in a season. Gayle had hit 59 sixes in the year 2012. Suryavanshi was the highest run scorer in the tournament. With this he became the youngest player to win the Orange Cap.
