New Delhi. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has caught everyone's attention with his batting after entering international cricket. This young batsman, who made his place in T20 International cricket at a young age, has also registered two half-centuries in six matches. Despite this, he could not get a place in the playing eleven in the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. Now Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has clarified the picture regarding Vaibhav's condition. According to Gambhir, Vaibhav will have to wait for his turn for now.
In the entire series against Afghanistan, India gave the responsibility of opening to Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Both the batsmen took advantage of this opportunity and performed brilliantly. Especially in the third T20 match, Abhishek Sharma batted stormily and scored a century in just 37 balls. On the basis of his performance, India defeated Afghanistan by 127 runs and made a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-match series.
After the series, Gautam Gambhir clarified the stand of the team management regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He said that the discussion with Vaibhav on this subject was absolutely clear. They will have to wait for their turn. The team management is fully aware of his talent and knows what he can do but experience and consistent performance in international cricket also has its own importance.
According to Gambhir, the player who has been performing well continuously for the last two-three years will be ahead of the player who has just entered international cricket. In such a situation, there is no hurry to give a chance to Vaibhav by removing Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. This does not mean that the team management is ignoring Vaibhav but there is a plan to give him a chance at the right time.
Gambhir also indicated that when Vaibhav gets a place in the playing eleven, he will not be given a chance for just one or two matches. The team management will give him ample opportunities to prove himself. That means the young batsman will have to be ready for a long-term opportunity.
Gambhir also expressed his views regarding age. He says that the waiting situation in cricket does not change depending on the age of the player. Whether the player is 15 years old or 30 years old, he will have to wait for his turn. It is important to have competition and talent in the team but every player has to wait for his chance.
There is another reason behind giving continuous opportunities to Abhishek and Sanju. According to Gambhir, the team management wanted to try again the opening combination in the Afghanistan series which had performed well for India in the T20 World Cup. It was not considered appropriate to exclude a player on the basis of poor performance in just three-four matches. Both the batsmen proved again against Afghanistan why they are being given continuous opportunities.
Vaibhav made his T20 International debut against England in July. After this, he has shown his ability by scoring two half-centuries in six matches. It is clear from Gambhir's message that the team management trusts the talent of the young batsman. For now, Vaibhav will have to wait and when his turn comes, he will be given enough chances to prove himself.
