The political controversy that started over 'Vande Mataram' has now reached a legal complaint. A complaint has been lodged with Delhi Police against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The complaint alleges alleged disruption of the singing of 'Vande Mataram' during the Independence Day celebrations held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi on August 15.
The complainant has demanded the police to investigate the matter and take legal action by registering an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. However, the filing of the complaint does not corroborate the allegations. Delhi Police is currently investigating the allegations made in the complaint and what exactly happened during the function.
Complainant and Supreme Court lawyer Shubh Sharma has demanded legal action in the matter. Shubh Sharma claimed that under the recently implemented legal provisions, 'Vande Mataram' has equal status as the national anthem. He said that in such a situation, the provisions related to this apply to every person including Sonia Gandhi. Sharma said that Sonia Gandhi is a senior leader and her public conduct impacts a large number of people. He said that if any senior leader publicly opposes 'Vande Mataram' then the country cannot accept it. However, the allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are still at the complaint stage and only after the police investigation will it be clear what actually happened at the event.
Controversy started from AICC headquarters program
Independence Day celebrations were organized at the Congress headquarters on 15 August. During this time, a controversy arose regarding the singing of 'Vande Mataram'. Regarding the video that surfaced, it was alleged that Sonia Gandhi made some gestures while singing the song and Rahul Gandhi was also present there. BJP targeted Congress and Gandhi family regarding this development. This entire incident has been presented in a different context by the Congress. On behalf of the party, it was said that during the program, Sonia Gandhi had indicated about the seating arrangement of senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge. In such a situation, different explanations have emerged from both sides of the dispute.
Now the focus is on police investigation
Based on the allegations made in the complaint, Delhi Police has started investigating the case. At present this is being considered a matter of preliminary investigation. Police will try to find out whether any alleged disturbance took place and if so, who was responsible. Only after investigation will the situation become clear regarding further legal action.
BJP accuses Congress of insulting 'Vande Mataram'
The political dispute between Congress and BJP regarding 'Vande Mataram' is continuously increasing. BJP has accused Congress of showing 'gross disrespect' towards the national anthem during the Independence Day celebrations. Party leaders claim that the attitude of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during the singing of 'Vande Mataram' at the Congress headquarters on August 15 was objectionable. The BJP alleged that Congress leaders objected to the singing of the full version of 'Vande Mataram' and tried to stop it. BJP leaders also demanded a public apology from Congress regarding this. However, these allegations are based on the claims of political parties and different explanations have emerged from both the parties regarding the incident.
Congress called the allegations wrong
Rejecting BJP's allegations, Congress said the full version of 'Vande Mataram' was sung at the event and no attempt was made to stop it. According to the party, at the time when Sonia Gandhi is seen gesturing in the video, her intention was not to stop the national anthem. She was indicating to arrange a chair for party president Mallikarjun Kharge, as Kharge had been standing for some time. According to Congress' clarification, the entire matter is being given a different meaning based on one part of the video. At the same time, BJP is continuously attacking Congress by linking this development with respect for the national anthem.
What is the whole controversy?
Independence Day celebrations were held at the AICC headquarters in Delhi on 15 August. During this program, a controversy came to light regarding the singing of 'Vande Mataram'. The complaint alleges that Sonia Gandhi made certain gestures during the song, which the complainant saw as an objection to her singing. Rahul Gandhi's alleged statement has also been mentioned in the complaint. In this matter, a complaint was given to Delhi Police on August 16 demanding registration of FIR against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The complainant has demanded an impartial investigation of the incident, investigation of the video and other available evidence and action as per law against those found guilty.
