Varanasi: Keeping in view the possibility of huge crowd during the proposed Kashi Air Show on the banks of Ganga, Varanasi Traffic Police has prepared traffic arrangements. There will be special restrictions on vehicular movement in the city from 12 midnight on October 21 to 12 midnight on October 25. According to the plan, vehicles with UP-65 number will be given priority entry into the city, while outside vehicles will be stopped and parked at designated places.

Traffic restrictions will remain in effect from 21 to 25 October

There is a possibility of increase in vehicular pressure on the city roads during the Kashi Air Show in Varanasi. In view of this, the traffic police has made a special plan regarding the entry and parking of vehicles in the city limits. According to the information released, the restrictions will be effective from 12 midnight on October 21 and will remain in force till 12 midnight on October 25.

During this period, there will be a provision to allow entry of mainly vehicles with UP-65 number in the city. A plan has been made to stop vehicles with numbers from other districts outside the city. However, people living within the city or vehicles with special needs may be allowed as per the circumstances and police instructions.

There are preparations to implement the traffic system at three levels, so that outside vehicles can be controlled even before moving towards the city. The aim of the police is to avoid traffic jams on the roads during the air show and maintain smooth movement of spectators.

Parking lots will be built on the highway and ring road

A large number of spectators are expected to arrive for the air show on October 22, 24 and 25. Crowds of people may gather on both banks of the Ganga. In such a situation, stopping the vehicles systematically and taking them to the parking place will be an important challenge for the traffic police.

Under the scheme, the movement of trucks, trailers, goods vehicles and small and big buses will be controlled on the highway and ring road. Four-wheelers with UP-65 number can also be allowed on the routes coming into the city from the highway and ring road after checking. Vehicles which will not be allowed to enter the city will be directed to designated parking spots.

The traffic police has marked 66 spaces for parking. Apart from this, land is also being searched for developing parking at other possible places. As per the need, the number of parking spaces is likely to be increased to around 80. With this, more vehicles will be parked systematically outside the city limits.

Visitors and local people advised to take care of traffic plan

Traffic pressure is likely to be high during the air show, especially during the three days. In such a situation, people coming from outside should take information about the prescribed parking and traffic instructions before entering the city. After parking the vehicle at the parking places, one will have to follow the arrangements issued by the police for further travel.

According to ADCP Traffic Anshuman Mishra, from October 21, the system of allowing entry of only vehicles with UP-65 number inside the city will be implemented. Drivers are advised to check official traffic advisories before travelling, as routes and parking instructions may change as required.
