Varun Dhawan Opens Up About Rejecting Andhadhun, Names the Actress Originally Cast- Deets Inside!
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan recently disclosed that he turned down Andhadhun, the acclaimed 2018 thriller starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu. He also revealed that another actress was originally considered for the female lead in Sriram Raghavan’s directorial. The film later released to critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. Eight years after its release, Andhadhun continues to be regarded as one of director Sriram Raghavan’s finest films. Featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, and Radhika Apte, the 2018 thriller earned widespread critical acclaim and performed exceptionally well at the box office.
The story follows a blind pianist who becomes entangled in the mysterious murder of a retired actor. Recently, Varun Dhawan revealed that he had been offered the film but chose not to take it up. Speaking on comedian Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel, the actor made a surprising disclosure about the project’s original casting plans and shared interesting details.
Varun Dhawan and Kangana Ranaut Were the Original Choices for Andhadhun
Varun Dhawan revealed during a conversation with Tanmay that he had turned down the acclaimed film Andhadhun. The actor shared that he couldn’t take up the black comedy crime thriller because he was occupied with another project at the time. He also disclosed that he and Kangana Ranaut were initially considered for the lead roles. While Varun explained his decision to reject the film, Kangana has not commented on the matter.

Eventually, Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, and Radhika Apte came on board the film. Ayushmann portrayed Akash, a blind pianist, while Tabu played the mysterious Simi. Radhika essayed the role of Sophie. The supporting cast featured Anil Dhawan, Ashwini Kalsekar, Zakir Hussain, Manav Vij, and several other talented actors, adding depth and intrigue to the acclaimed thriller film.
Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Matchbox Pictures, Andhadhun was a major box-office success. The thriller earned Rs 74.32 crore in India and amassed an impressive Rs 442.72 crore worldwide. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the film continues to enjoy a strong fan following. Varun Dhawan’s Upcoming Projects

Directed by Dhawan, the film opened at the box office with collections of Rs 7.5 crore. It faced competition from Bobby Deol’s Bandardirected by Anurag Kashyap. The latter hit theatres on June 5 and attracted significant attention from moviegoers nationwide.

That said, the Bollywood star will next appear in Maddock Films’ wolf 2. Although the sequel is currently slated to hit theatres on August 14, reports suggest the release could be postponed. The makers have not yet issued an official statement. wolf 2 serves as the follow-up to Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s 2022 hit supernatural comedy, wolfand expands its universe.
