Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai censored: CBFC asks makers to blur condom brand name, edit vulgar gestures
All eyes are on Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan. The film is also said to be David Dhawan’s last directorial venture. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is set to hit the big screen on June 5, 2026. Ahead of its release, the CBFC has issued a UA certificate, but not before asking the makers to implement a few important changes.
As per Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has directed the makers of the Varun Dhawan starrer to replace an inappropriate word used at four places in the film. A questionable hand gesture was also asked to be modified. In addition, a scene featuring the visible name of a condom brand has been edited, with the brand name now blurred. A word referring to a flavour has also been muted.
The board further instructed the makers to edit a six-second scene featuring the names of England cricketers Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes. Additionally, a sequence in which the actors’ undergarments were visible has been modified, with the makers zooming in on the actors’ faces and upper bodies.

With these changes in place, the film received a UA certificate on May 27. The runtime of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is 136 minutes and 40 seconds, which translates to 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 40 seconds.
In a conversation with Bombay Times, Varun expressed that if he is perceived as a hero in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, it is largely due to his co-stars Mrunal and Pooja. The actor confessed he cannot label himself a ‘hero’ as he considers himself a ‘red flag’ in this romantic comedy. Varun believes that even if his character stands out, it will be thanks to the support of his co-stars.
He said, “I love comedy, and I appreciate anyone who can make me laugh. Let comedy flourish and let people laugh. I feel we all need comedy. Yes, serious cinema should be made; in fact, after Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, I’ll be doing a film which is very different. But it is important to have laughter in our lives.”
