Vavna Morikha youth death case: Dharna continues for second day too, outrage of Dalit community outside Collectorate

The dharna demonstration started at the district collector’s office by the victim’s family and Dalit community leaders demanding justice in connection with the death of a youth in Morikha village of Vav taluka of Banaskantha district continued for the second day today. If the system does not show proper positive attitude, the agitation is likely to intensify.

The family members of the deceased youth allege that this incident is not a normal death but the youth has been killed slowly. An attempt has been made to weaken the case by not adding appropriate clauses to the police investigation. Earlier warning: A written submission was made to the district collector ten days ago and a demand for an impartial investigation was made. Also, if a proper solution is not found within 10 days, a clear warning of violent agitation was given.

Demand that the Collector listen to this matter in person: Family and community leaders have been sitting on dharna at the Collector’s office since 1:00 PM on Monday. Their main demand is that the District Collector himself should come in person to hear their submissions and explain why no action was taken on the earlier petitions.

Next day also no solution:

On the second day of the agitation on Tuesday, the women of the victim’s family also reached the collector’s office demanding justice. Although negotiations were held at various stages with the authorities, a satisfactory settlement could not be reached without any firm commitment from the system. The aggrieved party alleges that the responsible judiciary is turning a blind eye to this serious issue.

Aggressive Agitation:

Given the current situation, the victim’s family and the Dalit community are firm about their demands. If the problem is not resolved by taking appropriate measures at the earliest, the situation is set for this movement to take a more ferocious and violent form in the future. The society and the victim’s family have demanded immediate and fair action from the system.
