VB-G Ram Ji Law: Provision will be implemented across the country from July 1, government issued notification
Delhi. The government on Monday notified the Vikas Bharat-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Vikas Bharat-Ji Ram Ji Act and it will be implemented in rural areas across the country from July 1. The Ministry of Rural Development today said that giving a new direction to rural development and employment, the government has today notified Vikas Bharat – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) 2025. This Act will be applicable in rural areas across the country from July 1.
He said that with the implementation of Vikas Bharat-Ji Ram Ji Act, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (Mahatma Gandhi NREGA), 2005 will be considered repealed from the same date. This is a historic change in India’s rural development framework, which will usher in a new era of integrated, future-oriented and productivity-led rural transformation in line with the national vision of Developed India-2047. He said that under the new system, every rural family whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual labour, will get a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment in every financial year.
This enhanced guarantee is aimed at strengthening livelihood security, increasing rural incomes and supporting sustainable development at the village level. As per the provisions of the Act, workers will be provided work as per their employment demand within the stipulated time-limit. In case this does not happen, the workers will be entitled to receive unemployment allowance. This Act places special emphasis on timely and transparent wage payment. Wages will continue to be paid directly into the bank or post office accounts of workers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Wages will be paid on weekly basis or within fifteen days of closure of muster roll. If this does not happen, the workers will be eligible for delay compensation. The Government has ensured comprehensive financial provisions for effective implementation of the Vikas Bharat-Ji Ram Ji Act, 2025. The government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore for the financial year 2026-27, which is the highest allocation so far in the budget estimate stage for the rural employment programme.
The total outlay of this program including the possible state share of the states is estimated to be more than Rs 1.51 lakh crore. This allocation will provide a new impetus to rural infrastructure development, large-scale employment generation and increase in rural income. According to the government, the Vikas Bharat-Ji Ram Ji Act, 2025 is expected to give new impetus to rural employment generation, rural development and self-reliance in villages. Establishing Gram Panchayats as the central pillars of rural transformation, this Act will prove to be an important milestone in building a strong, prosperous and developed rural India.
