Its epicenter was west of the city of Moron and about 168 kilometers from the capital, Caracas. This earthquake was at a depth of 13 kilometers. Amidst the devastation caused by the first shock, a second major shock occurred. The second earthquake was more powerful than the first. Its intensity has been recorded at 7.5. Its depth was 10 kilometers. Meaning, it caused devastation within 10 kilometers of the ground. The epicenter of the second earthquake was 16 kilometers south-west of Moron.
The death toll in the earthquake is continuously increasing. There is great destruction in Caracas. Residential buildings were reduced to debris. Hundreds of people have been evacuated. Those who survived the accident are busy clearing the debris in search of their loved ones.
Tsunami alert after earthquake
Venezuela, which is trapped in the earthquake devastation, is also facing the threat of tsunami. According to reports, a tsunami alert has also been issued in Venezuela. The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a warning for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
