During the earthquake, part of the parking lot of the mall collapsed and he was buried under about 29 feet deep debris. After being trapped under the debris for eight consecutive days, the rescue team was successful in pulling them out alive on Thursday.

It was not easy to get Gill out. Rescue workers had to remove the debris with extreme caution continuously for about 70 hours. During this period, the danger of falling debris also remained.
