Victory on the threshold of power: Reached Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor, will present claim to form government

Chennai. After the results of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, political turmoil regarding government formation in the state has intensified. Vijay, chief of Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), reached Raj Bhavan to meet Governor RN Ravi to stake claim to form the government.

Meanwhile, Indian National Congress, taking a big decision, broke the alliance with its old ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and announced its support to TVK. This step of Congress has brought a new turn in the politics of the state.

Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge Girish Chodankar said that party leaders and MLAs met Vijay and handed over letters of support to him. He said the decision was also conveyed to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary KC Venugopal, who supported the move.

However, TVK still faces challenges in terms of data. 118 seats are required for majority in the 234-member assembly. TVK has 108 seats, while the number reaches 113 with the support of 5 Congress MLAs. This means that at least 5 more MLAs will still be needed to form the government.

After this decision of Congress, the equations are changing rapidly in the politics of Tamil Nadu and now all eyes are on the next step of the Governor and possible government formation.
