Sonarpur. TMC MP and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was assaulted on Saturday evening in Sonarpur, West Bengal. He had come here to meet the TMC workers injured in the election violence. It is alleged that as soon as he reached there, BJP workers surrounded him and beat him up while shouting slogans. People threw eggs at him, tore his shirt. Abhishek was taken out from there after wearing a helmet.

Abhishek, nephew of former CM Mamata Banerjee, said that these people wanted to kill me. Tore my shirt. There was not a single policeman at the spot. The head was saved because of the helmet.
