A viral video is currently being heavily discussed on social media. In this video, a poster advertising a toothpaste brand is seen spitting leaf juice. Actress, writer and director Divya Unni is seen in this poster, and netizens have expressed their anger after the video came out. Now Divya Unni has given her first reaction on this entire matter.

Sharing the viral video on Instagram, Divya said that many people had sent her this video. She pointed out that on the same wall where her poster was put up, there were also posters of many male politicians. However, the leaf juice was spat only on one woman’s face.

Reacting to this, Divya said, “I’m not Divya Unni, it’s just a woman’s face on the poster. It could have been any woman’s face. So I don’t see this as a personal attack only on me.”

Talking about this incident, she also commented on the society’s attitude towards women. “It is very shameful. But unfortunately this is not a new thing. Women are not respected in many places in our society. They are not treated equally, that is the real problem,” she said.

Divya further said that she will try to create awareness in the society by making films on issues like oppression, violence and discrimination against women. “I will make films on such subjects to change the mindset of people. I want to contribute through my art to get equal respect for women,” she said.

He also mentioned that the root of the problem lies in the mentality and upbringing of the society. “Unless children are taught to respect women from childhood, such incidents will not stop,” he further explained.

At the end of her statement, an emotional Divya said, “What happened with the poster is not the biggest problem. However, as a woman I have never felt so vulnerable before. I will continue my efforts to change this mentality.”
