Update Vietnam Boat Tragedy: A recent tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc island of Vietnam has shocked everyone. The mortal remains of 15 Indian citizens who lost their lives in this maritime accident reached Mumbai by a special plane on Monday. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has given official information about this on the social media platform X. Embassies and state governments are working together so that the bodies can be transported to their final destination as soon as possible.
The Indian Embassy in Hanoi and Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City remain active during this tragic time. The state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu are making arrangements to transport the dead bodies to their families in their states. The accident occurred when a boat suddenly capsized while tourists were roaming in the southern sea area of Phu Quoc. There were a total of 32 Indian tourists in this boat who had come to this tourist spot for a walk.
Injured Indian undergoing treatment
An Indian national who was injured in this very tragic boat accident was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Phu Quoc. On Sunday evening, an important medical procedure of this injured Indian has been successfully completed by the doctors. According to the Indian Embassy, he has been admitted to a major hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday. It is a matter of relief that the family members of the injured person have also reached Vietnam to take care of him.
Boat captain arrested
After this accident, the police of Vietnam’s southern An Giang province has intensified its legal action. Police have detained a person in connection with alleged legal violations related to the sinking of a tourist boat. The detained main accused has been identified as 57-year-old boat captain Nguyen Hong Hai. He is a native of An Giang province and was living temporarily in Phu Quoc for work in the tourism sector.

All the passengers were from South India
According to initial information and official reports, a total of 32 Indian tourists were on board the ill-fated boat when the major accident occurred. Of these, 17 people were residents of Tamil Nadu state who had come from long distances to spend their holidays in Vietnam. All the other passengers are said to be natives of South Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. Immediately after the accident, local rescue teams and emergency workers reached the spot and launched a large-scale rescue operation.
