Vietnam held by Singapore in disappointing ASEAN Cup draw

Vietnam were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Singapore in their 2026 ASEAN Cup group-stage match despite dominating possession and creating the better chances throughout.

The hosts threatened repeatedly in the first half through Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Thanh Chung and Nguyen Hoang Duc, whose powerful long-range effort struck the crossbar.

Vietnam continued to press after the break, but Hoang Hen, Quang Hai and Xuan Son all failed to convert promising opportunities. Nguyen Tai Loc also hit the crossbar late in the match, while Vietnam were denied a penalty after a VAR review.

As Vietnam pushed for a winner, Singapore nearly stole all three points in the closing stages. Goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang produced a crucial save to deny Jacob Mahler before another rebound effort flew over the bar. The result leaves Vietnam disappointed ahead of a tougher group-stage test against Indonesia.
