Vijay got stuck before becoming CM! Demand for FIR in HC on ‘Puli’ film, big revelation of tax scam

New Delhi: Troubles seem to be increasing for Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay. The case of income tax irregularities related to the 2015 film ‘Puli’ has again arisen against Vijay, who is in the race for the post of Chief Minister. A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court, demanding registration of an FIR against him.

What was said in the petition?

The petition alleges that Vijay was paid cash during the production of the film ‘Puli’, on which proper tax was not paid. The petition has been numbered in the court registry on Wednesday and is expected to be heard soon. This petition was filed last month, but the registry had earlier refused to give it a number.

‘Puli’ episode of 2015

According to the petition, the Income Tax Department had raided premises associated with Vijay in September 2015. The raid reportedly yielded some documents which showed that filmmakers P.T. Selvakumar and Shibu had given Rs 16 crore to Vijay through cheque, apart from this Rs 4.93 crore was also given in cash.

TDS was not deducted on the cash amount. During interrogation, Vijay admitted to taking about Rs 5 crore in cash and agreed to pay tax on it. Later he voluntarily declared additional income of Rs 15 crore and showed a total income of Rs 35.42 crore.

Demand for FIR

The petitioner has demanded criminal action and registration of FIR against Vijay on the basis of investigation by the Income Tax Department. The petition claims that irregularities related to cash transactions should not be ignored.

What effect on Vijay?

This petition has come at a politically sensitive time for Vijay. TVK Chief Vijay is doing active politics in Tamil Nadu and aspires for a bigger post in the future. This matter may affect his image.

Till now there has been no official response from Vijay or his side on this petition. The case is currently pending in the Madras High Court and the next hearing is awaited.
