Vijay Set to Become Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as VCK Extends Unconditional Support to TVK

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is now set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) officially extended unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday.

The move has effectively cleared the final hurdle for TVK to form the government in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. The party had earlier fallen short of the majority mark despite emerging as one of the strongest political forces in the state elections.

VCK Sends Official Letters to Governor

VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and party legislature leader Vanni Arasu submitted separate letters to Governor Rajendra Arlekar confirming support for Vijay’s bid to form the government.

In the letters, the party stated that it was extending “unconditional support” to TVK in the interest of ensuring stable and democratic governance in Tamil Nadu.

The support from VCK’s two MLAs is crucial because it helps the TVK-led alliance move past the required majority figure in the Assembly.

TVK Alliance Crosses Majority Mark

The Tamil Nadu Assembly has 234 seats, and a party or alliance requires 118 seats to form the government.

TVK secured 108 seats in the elections. The party later received support from Congress, CPI and CPM legislators. However, the alliance still needed additional backing to comfortably cross the majority line.

With VCK now joining the alliance, Vijay’s camp has gained the numbers required to stake claim to form the government.

Political observers believe the latest development could lead to a formal invitation from the Governor for Vijay to take oath as Chief Minister in the coming days.

Days of Political Uncertainty End

The announcement comes after several days of intense political discussions and uncertainty over VCK’s stand.

Earlier, reports suggested that VCK leaders were considering negotiations for key ministerial positions and a possible Deputy Chief Minister role in the new government. Statements from some party leaders had also hinted at seeking a stronger share in governance.

However, the final decision to offer unconditional support has brought clarity to the political situation in Tamil Nadu.

The delay in government formation had also resulted in multiple meetings between Vijay and Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who reportedly sought written proof of majority support before taking the next constitutional step.

Vijay Poised for Historic Political Milestone

If sworn in, Vijay will achieve one of the most significant political transitions in recent Tamil Nadu history.

The popular actor launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam with the promise of political change and quickly emerged as a major electoral force. His rise has drawn comparisons with former Tamil Nadu leaders M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, who also transitioned successfully from cinema to politics.

Supporters of TVK celebrated the VCK announcement across several parts of the state, calling it a historic moment for Tamil Nadu politics.

What Happens Next?

Political attention is now focused on Raj Bhavan, where the Governor is expected to review the submitted letters of support before inviting TVK to formally form the government.

Once invited, Vijay and his alliance partners are expected to begin discussions on cabinet formation and allocation of ministerial portfolios.

The coming days are likely to shape the next phase of governance in Tamil Nadu as the state prepares for a new political chapter under TVK leadership.
