Shubhendu Adhikari took oath as the new Chief Minister of Bengal, grand ceremony took place in the presence of PM Modi.
Tezzbuzz Desk – Historic reversal in the politics of West Bengal! BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari took oath as the new Chief Minister of the state today. Governor R.N. Ravi administered him the oath of office and secrecy. The ceremony was organized with pomp and show at the prestigious Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Shubhendu Adhikari had given a crushing defeat to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from Bhawanipur seat in the assembly by-election.
As per protocol, invitation for the swearing-in ceremony was also sent to Mamata Banerjee. The presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ceremony made it more grand. All senior BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were present on the occasion.
Along with Subhendu Adhikari, Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik and Shankar Ghosh also took oath as ministers. Events: On May 8, Amit Shah reached Kolkata, where Shubhendu Adhikari was elected the leader of the legislature party. Shah himself announced his name. After this, Shubhendu met the Governor and staked claim to prove his majority. The BJP won a landslide victory on 207 seats in the West Bengal Assembly, while the Trinamool Congress was reduced to just 80 seats.
With this victory, the 15-year long rule of Trinamool Congress came to an end. Statement of Subhendu Adhikari After taking oath, Subhendu Adhikari said, “This is the victory of the people of Bengal. We are committed to make ‘Bangla’ ‘Bengal’. Development, law and order and employment will be our priorities.
“Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi said that this victory is the people’s verdict on ‘politics of insecurity and appeasement’. This change will start a new chapter in the politics of West Bengal. The challenges before the new government are many, but the huge mandate of the BJP raises new hopes for development.
