Accordingly, all eligible wrestlers meeting the prescribed requirements have been included in the selection trials. “Have been cleared to participate.”

Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused to stay the Delhi High Court order allowing Olympian Vinesh Phogat to participate in the selection trials of the Asian Games. After this, the WFI had insisted that he would be allowed to participate only in the 50 kg weight category, in which he had participated in Paris two years ago. WFI had approached the Supreme Court to stay the Delhi High Court order.

WFI sources had told a news, “Vinesh Phogat will have to participate in the trials in the 50 kg category, the same weight class in which she participated in the Paris Olympics. Being a famous wrestler, she will be allowed to participate in the selection process, but only in the 50 kg category.” Starting from 48 kg weight category, Vinesh went up to 51 kg and then came down to 53 kg. He won two World Championship medals in this weight category.

However, before achieving qualification in 50 kg, he had participated in both the 53 and 50 kg categories in the trials for the Paris Olympic Games. She reached the final of the 50 kg weight class at the Paris Olympics in 2024, where on the morning of the final she narrowly failed in the sub-50 kg weight measurement. The 31-year-old wrestler, a member of Haryana’s famous Phogat sisters, had announced her retirement a day after her defeat at the Paris Olympics. However, in December 2025, he changed his decision of retirement and said to focus on LA Olympics 2028. While away from the mat, Vinesh also became a mother in July last year.
