New Delhi: Vishwesh Negi has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs. Negi, a 2002 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ambassador-designate is expected to take up his new diplomatic assignment in Tehran shortly, at a crucial period for India-Iran strategic and trade relations.
The development comes against the backdrop of rising tensions in West Asia, with India advocating for dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address the current crisis, especially along the Strait of Hormuz, to ensure the security of commercial shipping routes and safety of seafarers.
