Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Bengal Files’ is releasing in West Bengal.
Desk: Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ was released in theaters across the country on 5 September 2025. However, there was a lot of controversy regarding the release of the film in West Bengal. But now the government is changing in the state. Trinamool Congress has suffered a crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections and the Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government. In such a situation, Vivek Agnihotri is re-releasing his film ‘The Bengal Files’ in Kolkata.
‘The Bengal Files’ is going to be shown in theaters in Kolkata from this Friday. Vivek Agnihotri had alleged in September that the state government did not allow his film to be released. Soon after BJP’s victory in Bengal, Vivek Agnihotri had posted a post on X. In this post, he alleged that Mamata Banerjee had banned ‘The Bengal Files’ when she was the Chief Minister. He said that the trailer launch of my film was also stopped.
According to the news, Arijit Dutta’s Priya Cinemas is going to release the film in Kolkata this Friday. Arijit said, “A film passed by the censor was not allowed to be released in Bengal because of a party. This film could not be shown in even a single theatre, while everyone in the rest of India saw it. There is a lot of curiosity about this film. I am happy that Bengal will finally watch this film.”
Along with this, distributor Satdeep Saha said that not only Kolkata, we are also making a list of theaters in Bengal. That means, preparations are being made to release ‘The Bengal Files’ not only in Kolkata, but also in many other theaters of the state.
‘The Bengal Files’ was directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Artists like Simrit Kaur Randhawa, Namashi Chakraborty, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar and Anupam Kher worked in it. The budget of the film is said to be between Rs 35-50 crore. However, it could not do business as expected at the box office. The film did a worldwide business of Rs 23 crore and proved to be a flop.
