Sonam Wangchuk has started a hunger strike at Jantar-Mantar in Delhi from June 28. Their position is that the government should discuss their various demands. This movement is getting support from many sectors and some artists have even requested them to call off their fast. But Vivek Oberoi has refrained from commenting on the matter. Vivek has said that he is an actor, not a politician. He believes that in a healthy democracy people should be allowed to express their concerns.

Wangchuk has demanded the resignation of the Education Minister over the NEET paper leak and has also demanded full statehood for Ladakh. When asked about this, Vivek, instead of commenting, called himself an observer, who is constantly learning from the events around him.

Vivek Oberoi said, “I am an actor, not a politician. So I don’t pay attention to political matters. We observe and learn. There is a lot to see and learn in life.”

When Vivek Oberoi was asked what he saw and learned about the protests, he said, ‘I saw that it was also a new thing and I think every voice has a place in a healthy democracy. If these people have expressed their voice, it is a sign of a healthy democracy.

Vivek Oberoi neither supported nor openly opposed the agitations. He confined his views to the freedom of expression of the people. Meanwhile, many celebrities like Prakash Raj, Naseeruddin Shah, Zeenat Aman, Abhay Deol, Atul Kulkarni, Sayaji Shinde, Sonakshi Sinha, ‘3 Idiots’ Omi Vaidya, Vishal Dadlani, Kunika Sadanand and Devolina Bhattacharjee have come out in support of Sonam Wangchuk and requested her to end her hunger strike.
