Vivek Vihar fire incident: Roof door closed and no emergency exit, defects in such building took the lives of 9 people
Tezzbuzz Desk – A massive fire that broke out in a residential building in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi in the early hours of Sunday shook the entire area. In this tragic accident, 9 people died, while many others are said to be injured. The fire spread so fast that most people did not get a chance to recover or even get out.
According to the information, the fire broke out between 3.30 am and 4 am, when most of the people living in the building were in deep sleep. Within no time the fire engulfed the entire building and people living on the upper floors got trapped.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the biggest reason for this accident was the closing of the door leading to the terrace. It is being told that many people ran upwards to save their lives, but found the way to reach the roof closed. If the door had been open, perhaps many lives could have been saved.
According to reports, there was only one staircase in the building and no other emergency exit was present. Not only this, the strong iron grills installed on the windows also eliminated the possibility of people coming out. After the fire, people were left with no safe way to escape.
As soon as information about the incident was received, several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and relief work was started. According to officials, 10 to 15 people were evacuated safely, while 2 to 3 injured people were immediately sent to the hospital.
However, the rescue work remained quite challenging due to the intensity of the fire and closed roads. Firefighters also had to face a lot of difficulties in reaching inside.
A small child also died in this accident, due to which there is an atmosphere of grief and anger in the entire area. Local people say that if there were proper security arrangements in the building, such a big tragedy could have been avoided.
At present the cause of the fire is being investigated. Initial suspicion is of electrical fault or explosion in AC, but the real reason will be revealed only after the investigation is completed.
This incident has raised serious questions regarding fire safety in residential buildings. Closed exit doors, lack of fire safety equipment and lack of emergency routes have now become a major matter of concern for both the administration and the people.
