Vivo Vision Discovery Edition MR Headset in India, But There’s Still No Release Date

Vivo has showcased its Vivo Vision Discovery Edition mixed reality headset in India, giving consumers an opportunity to experience the device in person. However, the company has not confirmed whether or when it will become commercially available in the country.

The announcement came at Vivo NEXT 2026 on October 6, 2026. Vivo said it would make the headset available for demonstrations through 15 experience zones across 10 Indian cities. The program gives consumers a chance to explore the company’s mixed-reality technology without committing to a retail launch.

According to Vivo’s newsroom announcement, the headset weighs 398 grams and features dual Micro-OLED displays delivering 8K binocular resolution. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and supports eye and hand interaction through OriginOS Vision. Vivo has also highlighted Cinema Mode, which it says can simulate a 120-foot virtual theatre screen.

However, the company has not announced an India price or a retail availability date. Vivo has also clarified that the demonstration program does not guarantee a future commercial launch.

Vivo Vision Discovery Edition Is Now Available for In-Store Demos in India

Vivo’s announcement provides more detail about the mixed-reality headset previewed around Vivo NEXT 2026. The device is called the Vision Discovery Edition, which Vivo describes as its first mixed-reality headset.

The company has established 15 experience zones across Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Indore, Dehradun, Delhi, Patna, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Mumbai. These locations will allow visitors to try selected features and experience the headset’s approach to spatial computing.

The demonstration program is scheduled to run through January 5, 2027. Participation remains subject to the applicable terms and product availability, and the program may change without notice.

Vivo X Fold6 customers can also receive priority walk-in access at participating stores. They may need to show their X Fold6 device, pre-order proof, or purchase bill, depending on the applicable program requirements.

For consumers interested in mixed reality, the demonstrations offer a chance to explore the technology before making any purchasing decision. However, access to an in-store demo should not be interpreted as confirmation that the headset will eventually be sold in India.

What Does the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition Offer?

The Vision Discovery Edition combines a wearable display with software designed to place digital content within a user’s surroundings. Its showcased experiences include immersive video, spatial photographs, mixed-reality games, and multiple virtual windows.

Vivo says the headset weighs 398 grams. The company has also highlighted its ergonomic design, which includes four light-seal sizes and eight foam padding options intended to help users find a suitable fit.

Under the hood, the device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform. Its dual Micro-OLED displays deliver 8K binocular resolution, while spatial audio is intended to complement the immersive viewing experience.

These specifications provide an overview of the hardware, but they do not establish how comfortable the headset will be during extended sessions or how well it will perform across different applications. Longer-term use and independent testing will be needed to assess those aspects.

Eye and Hand Controls Aim to Make Interaction More Natural

Vivo is placing eye tracking and hand gestures at the center of the Vision Discovery Edition’s interaction system. Users can look at virtual objects and use hand movements, including pinch gestures, to interact with digital content.

The approach aims to reduce reliance on handheld controllers and make navigation feel more direct. The headset uses OriginOS Vision, Vivo’s operating system for mixed reality, to support experiences that combine digital visuals with the physical environment.

The showcased use cases include immersive viewing, spatial images, games, and multitasking across multiple virtual windows. The overall experience will depend on factors such as tracking accuracy, response time, and how consistently the headset re-recognizes users’ movements.

Vivo is presenting these capabilities as part of its approach to spatial computing. However, the current demonstration programs do not establish how the headset will perform in everyday use or across a wider range of applications.

Vivo Says Cinema Mode Can Simulate a 120-Foot Virtual Theatre Screen

Cinema Mode is one of the features Vivo has highlighted for the Vision Discovery Edition. According to the company, it can simulate a virtual theatre screen measuring 120 feet.

The feature is designed to create an immersive viewing environment for films and other video content. Vivo has also showcased 360-degree environments, spatial photographs, and games that incorporate virtual elements into the surrounding space.

A large virtual screen could appeal to users who want a theatre-style viewing experience without installing a large television or projector at home. However, the simulated screen size alone does not establish picture quality or viewing comfort.

Factors such as display clarity, video quality, headset fit, eye strain, and application support will also influence the experience. The India demonstrations give visitors an opportunity to explore some of these features and form their own impressions.

What Indian Buyers Should Know

The Vision Discovery Edition is currently being showcased through Vivo’s demonstration program. Consumers in the 10 participating cities can try the headset at designated experience zones, while eligible X Fold6 customers can receive priority walk-in access under the program’s terms.

Vivo has not announced an India retail price, a confirmed pre-order date, or a sale date. Consumers should therefore avoid treating the demonstration program as an indication that a commercial launch is imminent.

The update also adds details to TechGenyz’s earlier coverage of the Vivo NEXT 2026 teaser, which pointed towards a mixed-reality headset. The device’s name and demonstration plans are now confirmed, but its commercial future in India remains uncertain.

There is also an important distinction in Vivo’s announcement: the company is offering consumers an opportunity to experience the headset, not promising that it will eventually become a retail product. Its demonstration programs do not guarantee commercial availability.

Vivo is giving consumers in 10 Indian cities limited hands-on access to its mixed-reality headset. For now, Vivo has announced only a demo program, not a retail launch.
