Was India-Sri Lanka's first ODI match shifted from Delhi, BCCI gave a clear answer

The month of December 2026 is going to be very exciting for cricket lovers, because the Sri Lankan cricket team is coming to tour India at the end of this year. Under this tour, the Indian team has to play an exciting ODI series of three matches and T20 series of the same number of matches against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, such news started spreading rapidly in the sports circles that the first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka to be held in Delhi on December 13 has been shifted to some other city. On all these speculations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now issued its official statement and clarified the situation completely.

BCCI rejected all the news of match shifting

Putting an end to the news going on in the media on Monday BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia clarified that the news of shifting of India-Sri Lanka ODI match to be played in Delhi is completely just a rumour. BCCI has not taken any such decision. Saikia bluntly said in an official statement that the hosting of this first ODI match to be held on December 13 has been handed over to the capital Delhi as before and there has been no change in its scheduled venue.

Why were there rumors of changing the match?

It was being claimed in the media reports that due to some construction work going on in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, this match could be shifted from Delhi to Ahmedabad. Since the third and final ODI of the series is already scheduled for Ahmedabad on 19th December, such speculations were rife. However, the BCCI Secretary rejected all these claims and reiterated that the allocation of venues for bilateral matches is always done as per a fixed standard policy and there has been no change in this schedule.

Complete schedule of India-Sri Lanka series

After this clarification from BCCI, now cricket fans will be able to enjoy the matches without any doubt. The complete official schedule of this India tour of Sri Lanka is as follows:
