Was there a secret meeting between India and Pakistan? Foreign Ministry made a big disclosure

New Delhi: For the last few days, such reports were coming out that a secret meeting was held between the representatives of India and Pakistan in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. After these reports many types of discussions started. Now the Government of India has clarified its position on this entire matter and said that this was not an official meeting and the government has nothing to do with it.

What did the Foreign Ministry say?

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said while talking to the media that many such private programs are organized in different countries of the world. He clarified that the talks held in Colombo were not organized by the government and the Government of India had no official involvement or support in it.

He said that such programs are called ‘Track-2 Dialogue’, in which retired officers, experts, former military officers and civil society members participate. The people involved in these meetings express their personal views and not the official position of the Government of India.

What is Track-2 Dialogue?

Track-2 dialogue is an informal conversation in which former officials, experts or independent representatives of both the countries participate. Its objective is to find ways to reduce mutual tension and dialogue without political pressure. However, the ideas or suggestions taken in these meetings are not considered official decisions of the respective governments.

What was claimed in the report?

It was claimed in media reports that discussions took place between representatives of India and Pakistan for about two days in a hotel in Colombo. According to the report, issues like cross-border terrorism, water sharing and reducing military tension in future were discussed in the meeting.

It was told that some former military and diplomatic officers participated from the Indian side, while from the Pakistani side also former ambassadors and retired military officers were present.

Foreign Secretary’s clear stance

The Foreign Secretary clearly said that the Government of India does not give official importance to these private meetings. He said that the people involved do not represent the government and their views are completely personal. Therefore, these meetings should not be seen as the policy or official talks of the Government of India. After this statement it has become clear that the alleged meeting held in Colombo was not a part of any formal or official talks between India and Pakistan.
