‘We did not deserve to win…’ Shubman Gill furious after the defeat against KKR
In the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Gujarat Titans by 29 runs. KKR posted a score of 247/2 when put to bat first. In response, GT could score only 218 runs after losing 4 wickets. KKR took advantage of GT’s poor fielding and kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive by winning. After the defeat, GT captain Shubman Gill said that dropping many catches cost the team dearly.
Gill got angry after the defeat
Gill said in the post match presentation that we did not deserve to win after dropping 3 catches. He said, ‘Looking at the wicket, the score of 200 to 210 runs seemed like a par score. We dropped a lot of catches and it was not easy for the bowlers also. The pitch was good. Some balls were coming intermittently. I think what we achieved was a great effort. There is nothing to worry about but our fielding could have been better. After dropping 3 easy catches, I don’t think we deserved to win this match.

It is difficult for GT to remain in top-2
Gill won the toss on Saturday (May 16) and decided to bowl first. KKR made a fast start but its captain Ajinkya Rahane was out in the fifth over itself. He was clean bowled by Mohammad Siraj. Rahane could score only 14 runs in 14 balls. However, from the other end Finn Allen was continuously playing big shots. Meanwhile, Jason Holder gave him life on the cover.
Allen got another lease of life after the powerplay. Siraj took an easy catch on Holder’s ball. Allen adopted a ferocious form from here and laid the foundation of a strong score by hitting 93 runs in 35 balls with 4 fours and 10 sixes. Angkrish Raghuvanshi played an unbeaten inning of 82 runs in 44 balls, which included 4 fours and 7 sixes. He also got a lease of life. Angkrish was caught by Arshad Khan. Cameron Green made 52 not out in 28 balls. During this, 3 fours and 4 sixes came from his bat.

An unbroken partnership of 108 runs was made between Angkrish and Green, due to which KKR gave a difficult target to GT. In the run chase, Gill scored 85 runs in 49 balls with the help of 5 fours and 7 sixes but GT remained away from the target. Now it has become difficult for him to finish in the top-2.
