The five-match T20 series against West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw. During this series, Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not get a place in the playing 11. On this, Captain Shreyas Iyer has said a big thing about not playing Vaibhav in the series. Shreyas made it clear that 15 year old Vaibhav will have to have some patience to get a place in the playing eleven. He told that the team already has two such opening batsmen in the form of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. These people have won the World Cup for the country and are continuously scoring great runs.
Shreyas said that he had talked to Vaibhav about this during the Afghanistan series itself. He has advised Vaibhav to focus on his preparation and strategy instead of worrying about the opportunity. The wait is a bit long for Vaibhav, who scored 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. The Captain believes that due to the strong team combination, he will have to wait for his turn until the right time comes.

Performance in IPL
Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a brilliant innings in IPL 2026. While playing for Rajasthan Royals, he scored 776 runs and won almost all the major batting awards of the tournament. It was on the basis of this explosive game that he got a place in the Indian T20 team for the tour of Ireland and England. However, so far he has been able to play only 8 T20 matches for India. Even though he was adjudged 'Player of the Series' on the Zimbabwe tour, despite this he did not get a chance to play continuously.
Most of the matches of Vaibhav's T20 career came when VVS Laxman was the acting coach of the team. It has been included only 3 times so far during the tenure of coach Gautam Gambhir. All these three matches were played on the England tour. After this, he did not get a chance to play even a single match in the series against Afghanistan and West Indies.

Sanju Samson gets a chance
When Sanju Samson flopped in three consecutive matches on the England tour, Vaibhav got a chance to make his T20 debut. Vaibhav could not repeat his IPL form in the three matches against England. Due to this, Sanju returned in the fifth match.
After this Sanju Samson was rested from the Zimbabwe tour, where Vaibhav performed brilliantly. However, as soon as Sanju returned in the Afghanistan series, Vaibhav was again dropped from the playing 11. Abhishek, Sanju and Vaibhav were part of the team in the Asian Games, but in the recent series against West Indies, Vaibhav once again had to sit on the outside bench.
