"we want to win two": Jemimah Rodrigues eyes T20 World Cup victory
Mumbai, Mumbai: Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues talked about the motivation that is driving the team as they gear up for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, after a historic win in the 50-over tournament on their home turf last year. Speaking at the IISM Degree Distribution Ceremony 2026, Jemimah, along with head coach Amol Majumdar, expressed their desire to build on the team’s recent success.
“I think it’s a bit of a motivation thing now. Since we’ve won one, we want to win the other one as well,” Jemima was quoted as saying by ICC.
According to Jemima, the team’s preparation for the next World Cup has been long and steady. Emphasizing the importance of early and consistent training, Jemima said, “Our preparation has been very strong. It didn’t just start after the squad was announced. Right after the 2025 World Cup, during our first series against Sri Lanka, coach Amol Majumdar told us, ‘This is where we start our preparation for the next World Cup.’ So we have been preparing since day one.”
Jemima also praised Nandini, who has emerged as an important player for the team. “Nandani has been fantastic for us,” Jemima said. “She has proven herself not just in one match, but in consecutive matches. Given the experience in this team, we are confident that she will shine on the big stage as well.”
As the Indian team continues its preparation, their confidence in the team’s abilities, Majumdar’s leadership and the presence of rising stars like Nandini shows that they are more focused than ever to achieve even greater success on the global stage.
Amanjot has been a vital part of India’s white-ball team and also played a key role in the 2025 victory; In such a situation, his absence on the UK tour is a big blow for the team, especially considering his importance as a seam-bowling all-rounder.
Majumdar said, “She is injured, and it is very difficult to replace a player like Amanjot. She has been performing consistently for India.” Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur had also said something similar in the press conference held after the announcement of the team. “We will definitely miss her, but injuries are part of the game. She has suffered a serious injury, and will be out of cricket for at least 4-5 months. I am hopeful that she will make a full recovery and come back even stronger. It is difficult to replace her, but that is what happens in the game,” he added.
India, drawn in Group A along with Australia, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on June 14.
