Punjab Education: Four years after bringing revolutionary changes in the education structure of Punjab, the Bhagwant Mann government is now eyeing a bigger target. Under this goal, Punjab has to be made the leading education center of the country and to change the old belief that better education can be obtained only in foreign countries.
Referring to the huge leap taken by Punjab by overtaking Kerala in the national education rankings, the increasing dominance of girls among the board toppers and the success of 359 students of government schools in JEE Main, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state’s ‘education revolution’ has started yielding meaningful results at the ground level.
Schools are no longer struggling for identity
During the ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ program at Tagore Theater here today, students securing first three positions from all the districts in classes 8th, 10th and 12th were felicitated. Speaking during this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the government schools of Punjab are no longer struggling for recognition, but are setting new standards of excellence, confidence and opportunities across the country.
Special instructions issued to education department
Sharing some glimpses of this program on ‘X’, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann wrote, “Today, during the ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ program in Chandigarh, I had the privilege of honoring the promising toppers of class 8th, 10th and 12th of Punjab School Education Board. On this occasion, I issued special instructions to the Education Department that instead of deciding the rank on the basis of date of birth, the students who have obtained equal marks should be given the first rank jointly. Today, thanks to your government. “Due to the wholehearted efforts, the government schools of Punjab are even surpassing Kerala in the field of education.”

Every effort is being made to give wings to the ideas of our youth to take flight and no stone is being left unturned in this noble cause. I appeal to every youth to make a mark with hard work and dedication because whatever you achieve, There is no limit to what you can do.

Referring to the glorious heritage of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab not only provides food grains to the country but is also the sword of the country. The people of Punjab are known all over the world for their bravery, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Every inch of this sacred land is dedicated to the great heritage of great gurus, saints, prophets-prophets and martyrs who taught us to stand against injustice, oppression and coercion. Children are not forced to study sitting on the floor
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said, “When I assumed office, about four lakh children in Punjab were studying sitting on the floor. Today, due to the efforts of the Punjab government, not a single child is forced to study sitting on the floor. Punjab is now securing the top position in almost every national report related to the education sector.
Need for comprehensive reforms in examination system
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia stressed the need for comprehensive reforms in the examination system of the country. He said, “The outdated examination system in the country should be changed. Incidents like the leak of exams like NEET are ruining the future of millions of students. Instead of relying on the 19th century system, the exams should evaluate the overall aptitude and abilities of the students and not be limited to a three-hour exam.”
Government giving priority to education
Manish Sisodia further said, “The examination system must be adapted to the needs and abilities of 21st century students to develop their holistic personality and potential. To drive this change, we must elect governments that prioritize education and invest in education. The students participating in this function greatly appreciated the efforts of Punjab Government to strengthen education. Harleen Sharma from Jaito in Faridkot district thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for continuously motivating the students and encouraging them to achieve excellence. Nikhil Pandey, a student of Government School Rupana in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, presented a poem dedicated to his teachers and thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for inspiring the students in government schools to dream big and fulfill them.
Transport facilities for girls
Suhani Chauhan from Ludhiana said the education initiatives of the Punjab government have strengthened the confidence of students in government schools and she appreciated Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for encouraging students to speak and put forth their views on public platforms. Anmolpreet Kaur, a Class XI student of a government school in Zira, said that the Punjab government has made education more accessible to girls by providing transportation facilities. He also highlighted the installation of a lift in his school and shared that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has assured the students that he will visit the school soon.
Education revolution of Bhagwant Mann government gave excellent results
Punjab’s education revolution has started giving great results across the state. In NITI Aayog’s school education assessment, Punjab’s government schools have topped across the country, beating many traditionally better performing states. This year, 359 students from Schools of Eminence and other government schools have qualified for JEE Main, while the government has also partnered with coaching institute ‘Physics Wala’ to provide free coaching for competitive exams like JEE and NEET.
More than 1.8 lakh school staff
The Bhagwant Mann government has launched the Parent-Teacher Meet initiative in about 19,000 government schools, which has provided an opportunity to meet about 25 lakh parents and more than 1.8 lakh school staff to focus on the development of students. Other major reforms include overseas training programs for teachers in Finland and Singapore, mobility facilities for students and expansion of Schools of Eminence aimed at providing world-class education to the children of Punjab.
