IMD Heavy Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a new weather report. According to the Meteorological Department, the observed maximum temperature was ≥43°C on April 22, 2026. The highest maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 44.6°C at Jharsuguda (Odisha). Furthermore, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding heatwave conditions across the plains of Northwest, Central, and East India over the next 4-5 days.

Consequently, people have been advised to venture out of their homes only during the afternoon hours, if absolutely necessary. Meanwhile, alerts have also been issued for more than 16 states across the country due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail. Residents of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh also appear to be grappling with severe heatwave conditions.

According to an IMD press release, alerts regarding rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds have been issued for several states across the country.
A warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Arunachal Pradesh for April 26 and 27.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, noting that rainfall is expected to continue until April 27.
Hailstorms are also possible in Telangana today.
On April 24 and 25, scattered light to moderate rain or snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, is likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad.

Between April 26 and 28, light rainfall accompanied by strong winds is possible in Punjab, Haryana, and the Delhi-NCR region.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Assam and Meghalaya between April 25 and 27.
On April 25 and 26, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places across Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Jharkhand may experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on April 24 and 25.

Odisha is likely to witness rain and strong winds until April 25.
Moderate rainfall is anticipated in Kerala until April 23.
Goa may experience light to moderate rainfall until April 25.
There is also a possibility of strong winds accompanied by thunder in Bihar during April 24–26, and in the Gangetic plains of West Bengal on April 26 and 27.
Isolated hailstorms are likely in North Interior Karnataka on April 23.

Heatwave Warning for North India
Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh are currently under the grip of a severe heatwave. No relief from the heat is expected in these regions until April 25.
