West Bengal Polling Station Elephant Viral Video: A unique scene was seen during voting in Jhargram, West Bengal, when an elephant appeared near the polling booth. The incident took place outside the booth located at Jitusol Primary School, where voting was going on. Seeing the elephant, local people gathered there in large numbers, although no untoward incident took place.

This matter has come to light at a time when the Election Commission and the Forest Department have already taken special vigilance in elephant-affected areas. In the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, about 25 polling stations in South Bengal have been declared sensitive due to their proximity to elephant corridors.

60% sensitive center in Jhargram

About 60% of these centers are in Jhargram. Areas like Manikpara, Belpahari, Banspahari and Lalgarh are considered especially sensitive. Similarly, additional precautionary measures have also been taken in parts of Bankura and West Midnapore. Six polling stations located in the forest areas of Jaldapara National Park in North Bengal have also been declared sensitive.

75 tracker teams deployed in Bengal

The forest department has deployed around 75 tracker teams, comprising 10-15 trained personnel, to prevent human-elephant conflict. These teams are monitoring 24 hours from 48 hours before the voting. Also, 450–500 drop gates have been installed in Jharkhand and Odisha border areas to control the movement of elephants.

Apart from this, many places are being monitored with AI-enabled CCTV cameras and a control room has also been set up. According to officials, all these measures are aimed at ensuring that the voting process continues safely and smoothly despite the presence of wildlife.

Voting continues in Bengal

Voting is taking place on 152 seats in West Bengal today under the first phase. A total of 1,478 candidates are trying their luck on these seats. Bengal’s electoral geography is vast, ranging from districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal to East and West Medinipur in South Bengal. Everyone is keeping a close eye on 22 seats of Murshidabad and 31 seats of Medinipur.
