Weather: Heavy rain forecast in many states of India till August 3, alert of strong wind and lightning along with thunder.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of widespread rainfall in Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir till August 3. The department has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, thunder, lightning and strong winds in many areas. This situation may last till the first week of August.
According to the bulletin issued by IMD on Wednesday morning, the deep depression formed in North Interior Odisha and areas adjoining South Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh is moving westwards. It is likely to move towards North Interior Odisha and North Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours, due to which monsoon will remain active in many states of North India. Extensive rain is expected in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab from July 29 to 31 and August 2 to 3.
There may be some reduction in rain on August 1. The department has warned of heavy rain at many places between July 30 and August 3 and very heavy rain in some areas on July 29. Extensive rain is expected in Himachal Pradesh from July 29 to August 3. People have been advised to remain alert in view of the possibility of landslides, flash floods and waterlogging in hilly areas.
Extensive rain is forecast in Uttarakhand from July 29 to August 3. The department has advised to take extra caution in hilly areas. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are expected to receive widespread rainfall and gusty winds of 30 to 40 km per hour, which can reach 50 km per hour, from July 29 to August 3. Here, heavy rains are expected between July 29 and July 31 and August 3, while heavy rainfall is predicted on July 30.
The Meteorological Department has advised people living in low-lying and hilly areas to remain alert. The department has said that due to heavy rains, situations like local waterlogging, traffic obstruction, flash floods and landslides can arise. The administration has been instructed to monitor sensitive areas and take necessary precautionary measures.
