Weather of Sunday, July 5: Heavy rain in many states, IMD issued alert of thunderstorm and lightning

New Delhi: According to the India Meteorological Department, the south-west monsoon will be active in most parts of the country on July 5. Due to the low pressure area formed in eastern and central India, there is an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in many states. IMD has appealed to people to remain alert in bad weather and follow the guidelines of the local administration.

Central India: Heavy rain in MP, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha   

Monsoon will show maximum impact in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. There may be heavy rain at many places here. There is a possibility of waterlogging and flooding of low-lying areas due to continuous rain in some areas of West MP and Vidarbha.

In Chhattisgarh too, there is a possibility of heavy rain along with lightning and storm with a speed of 40-60 km per hour. The Meteorological Department has advised farmers and common people to stay away from rivers, streams and waterlogged areas.

Eastern India: Threat of very heavy rain in Odisha, Bengal   

Extremely heavy rainfall may occur at some places in Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Gangetic West Bengal. There will be a danger of rain and lightning along with thunder and lightning in Jharkhand and Bihar.

Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands may also receive moderate to heavy rain. In these states, situations like local waterlogging, traffic jams and floods in low-lying areas may occur.

North India: Heavy rain in Uttarakhand, light showers in Delhi-NCR   

Heavy rains will continue in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. There may be very heavy rain in some parts of Uttarakhand. Heavy rain is expected in many areas in Himachal also.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers will be seen in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Rain will continue in western and eastern Rajasthan also. There is a warning of heavy rain for parts of eastern Rajasthan. There will be rain at many places in both eastern and western parts of Uttar Pradesh.

West India: Heavy rain alert in Mumbai, Goa   

In Maharashtra, Monsoon will be active in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Goa. Heavy rain may occur at many places in Goa and Central Maharashtra. An alert of heavy to extremely heavy rain has been issued for Mumbai and surrounding areas.

There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Kutch also. Due to continuous rain, waterlogging and traffic may be affected in cities. Therefore it has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

South and Northeast: Rain in Kerala, Karnataka, Assam   

Light to moderate rain will occur over parts of Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is also possible at some places.

Thunderstorm with heavy rain is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the Northeast.

Overall, the weather will be bad in most parts of the country on July 5. Caution is necessary due to heavy rains in many states.
