New Delhi : In many states of the country heavy rain seems to be happening. Southwest Monsoon rains have lashed the Western Himalayan region. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning occurred in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A cloudburst occurred in Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir amid heavy rains. Heavy rains triggered landslides in the hilly states, disrupting traffic on several routes.
The collapse of a bailey bridge at Pithorgarh in Uttarakhand cut off communication with border areas. Plains of North India including Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh also received good rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of gusty wind, thunder and lightning in many areas and urged people to be alert. Northwest India is likely to witness heavy rains for at least the next three days.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is likely to occur in many parts of North-West, Central, East, West and South India between August 20 and 25. Heavy to very heavy rain with thunder and gusty winds is also likely at some places.

In Northwest India, Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall between August 20 and 25, with heavy rainfall at some places. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas may experience heavy rain on August 20-21. East Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rains during August 20-22. West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rain on August 21.
Chance of heavy rain
West Madhya Pradesh may experience heavy rains during August 20-23 and heavy rains are also likely on August 20-21 and 23-24. East Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive rain between 20th and 25th August, heavy rain is likely at some places between 20th and 22nd August. Rain is likely in Vidarbha on August 20 to 22 and August 24 to 25. In Chhattisgarh, rain is forecast from 21st to 22nd August, heavy rain is likely at some places till 21st August.
