After entertaining audiences in theatres, Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle had arrived on the OTT platform, giving viewers another chance to watch the comedy film at home. The film had started streaming on JioHotstar on August 21, nearly two months after its theatrical release.
The makers had announced the digital release through the platform’s official social media page. The post had featured the film’s poster with the caption, “This chaos? Too junglee to miss! #WelcomeToTheJungle, now streaming on #JioHotstar.”
The movie had opened in cinemas on June 26 and had followed the usual release gap between its theatrical and digital premieres.
Before reaching OTT, Welcome to the Jungle had completed its theatrical journey and had recorded a strong box office performance. Reports had stated that the film had crossed the worldwide collection of the original Welcome (2007) within five days of release.
Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome to the Jungle had brought together a huge group of actors. The film had featured Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal in leading roles.
The film had earned ₹192.75 crore worldwide, while its India net collection had stood at ₹134.11 crore, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.
The ensemble cast also included Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek and several other actors.
The film had reportedly featured 34 actors, making it one of the biggest ensemble projects in recent Hindi cinema.
The story had followed a businessman who had invested black money into a film project, expecting it to fail. However, events had taken an unexpected turn when a jungle film shoot had been misunderstood as a real military operation.
The confusion had led to a series of comic situations involving mistaken identities, action scenes and unexpected events.
With its OTT release, Welcome to the Jungle had become available for viewers who had missed its theatrical run.
