West Bengal Election 2026 : Zadagram : Assembly elections are in full swing in West Bengal. Voting for 152 seats is going on in the first phase. Many strange incidents are happening in the wake of the elections in Bengal, which has caught the attention of the entire country. There was tension in Murshidabad’s Nawada assembly constituency. But now a strange incident happened in Zadhagram. The arrival of Gajraj directly at the polling station made the voters very excited. A unique sight was witnessed during the polling in Jhadgram, West Bengal, where an elephant was spotted at the polling station. The incident took place outside a polling station near Jitusol Primary School, where voting begins. But suddenly an elephant entered the polling station and there was a commotion. On seeing the elephant, only fear arose among the voters. At the same time local people gathered in large numbers, many tried to show the way to the elephant. Fortunately, no untoward incident took place here.

The incident comes at a time when the Election Commission and the Forest Department have already taken special precautions in elephant-infested areas. In the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, around 25 polling stations in South Bengal have been declared sensitive due to their proximity to elephant routes. Almost 60 percent polling stations are located in Zadhagram. Areas like Manikpara, Belpahadi, Banspahadi and Lalgad are considered particularly sensitive. Similarly, additional precautionary measures have been taken in parts of Bankura and West Mednapur. Six polling stations located in the forest area of Jaldapara National Park in North Bengal have also been declared sensitive.

75 tracker teams deployed in Bengal
The forest department has deployed approximately 75 tracker teams comprising 10-15 trained personnel to prevent human-elephant conflicts during the election rush. These teams are conducting 24-hour surveillance for 48 hours before polling. In addition, 450-500 drop gates have been installed in the border areas of Jharkhand and Odisha to control the movement of elephants.

Apart from this, AI-enabled CCTV cameras are being installed at many places and a control room has also been set up. According to officials, all these measures are aimed at ensuring that the polling process is conducted safely and smoothly despite the presence of wildlife.
