There was sudden chaos in the historic New Market area of Kolkata on Tuesday night when a mob targeted the office of Trinamool Congress and some shops and used a bulldozer on them.
The New Market area of Kolkata is known for its hustle and bustle and historical importance, but on Tuesday night the scene here was completely different and scary. According to reports, a group of people targeted the TMC office of New Market Union and reduced the entire building to rubble.
Stampede among traders
At the time of the incident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area and there was a stampede among the traders working around the historic Hog Market. Fearing to save their lives, local shopkeepers hastily pulled down their shutters and started running towards safe places.
TMC accused BJP of hooliganism
After this bulldozer action, TMC’s anger is at its peak. The party issued an official statement calling it ‘open hooliganism and anarchy’ Have agreed. TMC alleges that the mob of BJP supporters has vandalized local shops and their party office as part of a well-planned conspiracy. The party also attacked the central government, claiming that during this entire incident the central security forces were asked to ‘retreat’. Instructions were given to allow violence to occur.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra and senior leader Derek O’Brien have strongly condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the culture of Bengal and saying that an atmosphere of terror is being created in the state.
The claims of the people living there are different
While on one hand TMC is calling it a political attack, on the other hand the local people have a different view. Some people of the area claim that the building which was demolished was built illegally and earlier this land was forcibly snatched from a shopkeeper.
However, amid this political tussle, the loss of life and property is increasing. So far, one worker each of BJP and TMC has died in separate incidents of post-poll violence. While a BJP worker lost his life in New Town area, a TMC worker was killed in Birbhum.
CEC gave these orders to top officials
The CEC has asked senior officials of the state like the Chief Secretary, DGP, Kolkata Police Commissioner and principal Director Generals of the Central Armed Police Forces to remain alert. Also, DM, SP and police officers of all the districts have been ordered to patrol continuously so that the situation remains under control. The Election Commission has also made it clear that any kind of violence will not be tolerated at all after the elections. Those inciting violence and vandalism will be arrested immediately.
Madhu Mandal was murdered recently
Let us tell you that on Tuesday, a BJP worker was beaten to death in Newtown area of Kolkata. The name of this worker is being told as Madhu Mandal. It is alleged that TMC supporters have a hand in this incident. After this murder, there was immense anger among the family and local people. The situation became so bad that the police had to resort to lathicharge to control the crowd.

Political rhetoric has also intensified during this period. Mamata Banerjee has refused to resign from the post of Chief Minister after losing the elections.
