What did Sharad Pawar say on PM Modi’s retirement? Even Congress will lose its senses after hearing the answer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently celebrated his 75th birthday. While on one hand he received congratulations from all over the country, on the other hand an old debate has again intensified in the political circles. The question being raised is whether PM Modi should retire from politics now? The opposition is continuously laying siege on this issue, but meanwhile, Sharad Pawar, who is called ‘Chanakya’ of politics, has said something which has shocked everyone.
Pawar’s ‘powerful’ answer to the question of retirement
When journalists asked 85-year-old Sharad Pawar questions about completion of 75 years of PM Modi and his retirement, he gave a very simple and logical answer. Pawar clearly said that he has no ‘moral right’ to say anything on this subject. Pawar argued that when he himself is fully active in politics at the age of 85 and is working among the public, then how can he advise any other leader to retire on the basis of age?
Debate broke out on BJP’s old rules
Actually, this entire controversy is in discussion because the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) itself had earlier made an unannounced rule. Under this rule, veteran leaders like LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were kept away from active politics after crossing the age of 75 and were put in the ‘Margdarshak Mandal’. Now the opposition is raising the same question that why the rule which was applicable on Advani ji is not applicable on Narendra Modi?
Age or activity: what is more important?
On the question of BJP sidelining its own leaders, Sharad Pawar quipped that now the people of BJP are saying that they had never made any such rule that the leaders should step back after 75. Reiterating his point, Pawar said, “Where am I staying? I myself am 85 years old.”
Pawar believes that activism and the passion to work for the public are more important than age in politics. He stressed that as long as a leader remains connected to the people and has the ability to solve their problems, his role in politics remains important.
Concern also expressed on farmers’ problems
Amidst political discussions, Sharad Pawar also talked about the current situation in Maharashtra. He said that at present the farmers of the state are in great distress due to heavy rains and natural disasters. There has been massive damage to crops. Pawar advised the government that apart from politics, more time and resources are needed to provide relief to the farmers at this time, so that they can be saved from ruin.
