According to mythology, Indradev had to live without his powers, glory and prestige for many years. In his absence the demons started increasing their influence in heaven. After which, to save heaven, the gods gave the throne of heaven to the king of the earth, Nahusha. After getting the throne of heaven, King Nahusha also became arrogant, due to which he also started committing sins. Then Brihaspati Dev taught him a lesson.
According to mythological beliefs, Lord Indra had insulted sage Durvasa because of his ego. Because of which sage Durvasa got angry and cursed Indradev. Due to the effect of the curse, Indradev became powerless and had to leave his throne. After this, the wrath of demons and demons started increasing in heaven. Now the question arises that what did Indradev do that he got cursed? Also, what was the mistake of King Nahusha due to which he had to step down from the throne of heaven?

Why did Durvasa curse Indradev?
According to the legend, sage Durvasa was known for his anger. One day Indradev and Durvasa Rishi met. During that time Indradev was riding on his elephant Airavat. In the joy of meeting, sage Durvasa gifted a divine garland to Lord Indra. Indradev accepted the gift, but instead of wearing the garland himself, he made the elephant wear it. The elephant threw the garland on the ground with its trunk and crushed it with its feet. Seeing this, sage Durvasa became angry. In anger he cursed Indradev to be deprived of wealth and glory. As a result of which Indradev had to leave his kingdom.
There was an uproar in heaven due to Indradev’s sudden abdication from the throne. With the help of their powers, the demons stopped people from performing Havan and Yagya. Troubled by this, all the gods started thinking how to get rid of this problem.

Nahusha got the throne of heaven
Only one name came to the mind of all the gods that the throne of heaven should be handed over to Nahusha, the powerful king of the earth, so that the demons in heaven could be destroyed. According to the decision, Nahusha was given the throne of heaven. Nahusha soon drove away the demons from heaven with the power of his power and made heaven as beautiful and peaceful as before.
However, after some time, Nahusha also became arrogant and sinful due to his greed for wealth and power. Because of his sins he was cursed to become a dragon. At the same time, Indradev repented his sins, after which he again returned to the throne of heaven.

Nahusha was cursed
Once in his arrogance of power, Nahusha had bad thoughts towards Indradev’s wife Shachi. He also expressed his desire to Sachi Devi and asked her to marry him. However, Shachi Devi refused this.
Troubled by Nahusha, Shachi Devi sought help from Brihaspati Dev. Then Brihaspati Dev advised him to agree to Nahusha’s marriage proposal, but put a condition that when he comes for the marriage, Saptarishi should bring his palanquin.
Nahusha accepted this condition. Saptarishi had grown old, so he was carrying the palanquin slowly. Seeing this, Nahusha became angry and kicked one of the seven sages. Angered by this, the seven sages cursed Nahusha to become a python. Thousands of years later, Pandavas freed Nahusha from this curse.
