What happened in the court on the day of Sanjay Dutt’s sentencing? Ujjwal Nikam revealed many secrets, said – the actor was completely broken after hearing the decision
New Delhi . The discussion has once again intensified regarding the famous Arms Act case related to actor Sanjay Dutt. This time the reason for this is the incident related to the years old case, which was shared by former special government lawyer Ujjwal Nikam in a recent conversation. Recalling those moments during the verdict being announced in the court, he said that Sanjay Dutt was very scared at that time and panic was clearly visible on his face. This incident related to the trial has once again refreshed the memories of that case.
According to Nikam, the day of the verdict being pronounced in the court was extremely sensitive. Sanjay Dutt was out on bail at that time, but after his conviction, the court ordered his immediate custody. On hearing this decision, the actor’s mental state completely changed and he became very emotional. Nikam told that the atmosphere of the court was serious and everyone’s eyes were fixed on the same case.
He said that the prosecution had demanded strict punishment from the court under the Arms Act. On the other hand, the defense had argued that this was Sanjay Dutt’s first crime and he should be given relief. The court gave its decision after hearing the arguments from both sides. Nikam says that he presented his stand on the basis of the provisions of the law and the court gave its decision accordingly.
During the conversation, Nikam also told that Sanjay Dutt was continuously reiterating his innocence. He said that he did not do any wrong intentionally. Despite this, he looked extremely disappointed and uncomfortable after the court’s decision. According to Nikam, at that time he had also advised Sanjay Dutt to maintain restraint, as a large number of people and media were present outside the court premises.
This matter came to light during the investigation of the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. During investigation, a case of illegal weapons being found with Sanjay Dutt was registered. Later, the court acquitted him of terrorism-related charges and convicted him only of possessing illegal weapons. On this basis, he was sentenced under the Arms Act.
In subsequent years, this case was included in the most discussed legal processes of the country. The Supreme Court, while hearing this case, had also amended the sentence period. Sanjay Dutt completed his sentence after completing the stipulated period and then returned to films. However, this case is still counted among the most important and discussed chapters of his life.
Ujjwal Nikam also said that his role in the court was only to present his case as per the law. He clarified that his aim was not to target any particular person, but to follow the judicial process. These statements of his, which came to light years later, have once again brought that much-discussed case and the emotional moments related to it into the center of discussion.
