What is delaying ‘Barbie 2’?

Barbie 2 is reportedly facing major hurdles despite the blockbuster success of the original film.

It has been three summers since the first movie came out in 2023 and grossed $1.5 billion worldwide alongwith 8 Oscar nods.

However, now the sequel is hanging in air with no certain fate.

Negotiations involving director Greta Gerwig and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have stalled as Warner Bros. is racing to keep the sequel alive.

With no sequel clauses in their original contracts and a December deadline looming before the rights revert to Mattel, the future of Barbie 2 is far from certain.

As per The New York Times, no deal is in place as of now and “time is running out”.

It has been reported that the Project Hail Mary star was offered $20 million but Warners CEO David Zaslav believes the offer is too much as it includes a percentage of the box office profits as well.

Previously, the filmmaker said she does not have any ideas fr a sequel and is unsure if she will come back. Meanwhile, Margot agreed with the sentiment.
