Lifestyle:- Nausea i.e. feeling like nausea or vomiting is a common problem. Sometimes this feeling can occur due to overeating, indigestion, gas, motion sickness during travel, strong smell, stress or any infection. Some people also complain of nausea during headache or migraine. Although nausea is not always a sign of a serious problem, recurring or prolonged nausea should not be ignored.
If you also suddenly start feeling nauseous or feel like vomiting, then some easy measures can be tried to get relief. Let us know what to do during nausea.
drink small amounts of water
In case of nausea, it may be better to drink small amounts of water instead of drinking too much water at once. Nausea and weakness can also increase due to lack of water in the body. If vomiting is also occurring then there may be deficiency of water and electrolytes from the body.
In such a situation, drink water by taking small sips. If needed, oral rehydration solution i.e. ORS can be used with the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.
Ginger can provide relief
Ginger has long been used as a home remedy for nausea and digestive problems. Some people may find relief by drinking mild ginger tea or eating a small amount of ginger in food.
However, taking it in excessive amounts can cause stomach problems. If you regularly take any medications or have any health problems, it is better to consult a specialist before consuming ginger in excess.
eat light and small amounts of food
It is not always good to keep the stomach completely empty during nausea. If you feel like eating, take light and easily digestible food in small quantities. Some people may like plain toast, khichdi, rice, banana or plain biscuits. During this period, avoid eating too much fried, spicy and fatty food. It may be better to eat small amounts of food instead of eating too much at one go.
Avoid strong odor and suffocation
Strong food smells, perfumes, smoke or the stuffiness of a closed room can increase nausea in some people. If you are feeling nauseous, then sit in the open air for some time and keep adequate ventilation in the room. Even while cooking, if a particular smell increases the discomfort, then keeping a distance from it can be helpful.
Rest and do not overexert your body
Doing too much physical activity immediately during nausea can worsen the problem. Sit or rest in a comfortable position. It may be better to sit straight for some time instead of lying flat immediately after eating, especially if nausea is accompanied by acidity or heartburn.
When is it necessary to contact a doctor?
Occasional mild nausea usually goes away after some time. But if there is continuous vomiting, water or any fluid is not retained in the body, excessive weakness or dizziness, severe stomach ache or chest pain, blood is seen in vomit or there is problem with high fever, then it is important to seek medical advice immediately.
Similarly, if symptoms of excessive vomiting or dehydration appear during pregnancy, contact a doctor.
Nausea is not a disease in itself but can be a symptom caused by many different causes. So if the problem of nausea occurs frequently or persists for a long time, it is better to consult a doctor to check its cause rather than relying only on home remedies.
