WhatsApp is shutting down avatar feature, users will no longer be able to create digital profiles

Knews Desk-Popular messaging app WhatsApp is going to gradually remove a feature from its platform. The company is now shutting down the Avatar feature, after which users will neither be able to create a new digital avatar nor edit the old one. This change is being implemented in a phased manner, so not all users are seeing its impact at the same time.

According to reports, earlier users were given the facility to create their own digital avatar, in which they could customize their face, hairstyle and clothes. This avatar could be used as a profile photo and was also available as a sticker in chat. But now this feature is slowly disappearing from the app.

Option being removed from settings and chat

According to the information, the avatar option has been removed from the Settings, Chat Info and Keyboard sections of many users’ WhatsApp app. Some users are also getting notification that the facility of avatar editing is no longer available. It is clear that this feature will be completely removed in the coming time. However, the company is not implementing this change all at once, but is rolling it out phase-wise. This is the reason why some users are still able to use this feature.

Old stickers will remain available for now

It is a matter of relief that the stickers of those users who have already created avatars will not be removed immediately. These stickers will be available in the Favorites or Recent section of the chat for some time and users will be able to use them. But there will be no option to create a new avatar or make changes to the old one.

Why is the feature being removed?

Although Meta has not officially given the reason for removing this feature, it is believed that the avatar feature did not become as popular as expected. Most users still prefer to use the traditional profile photo, emojis and simple stickers. Removing less-used features is a common strategy for any tech company to make the app simpler and faster.
