Now reports suggest that two new features are in the works for the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, which can further improve the user experience. According to reports, WhatsApp may soon launch a new ‘Green Dot Online Indicator’ and an advanced backup management feature.
Let’s start with the ‘Green Dot’ feature. With this, users will be able to see whether a contact is online or not without opening the chat. Currently, one has to open a chat to see someone’s online status, but with this new feature, the green dot visible on the profile photo will give this information.
According to reports, this feature has been seen in version 2.26.24.5 of WhatsApp Beta for Android. It will work similar to the online indicators available on platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Slack. However, users will also have the option to hide this online status through their privacy settings.
new backup section
WhatsApp is also creating a new backup management section. With the help of this feature, users will be able to view their old backups, delete them when not needed and make copies of them when needed. This will make it easier to manage storage space on both their device and Google Drive.
According to reports, the new backup management tool may also provide a shortcut to manage Google Drive storage. This will allow users to access WhatsApp backup settings directly from Android system settings.
Google is also working on a similar feature. Through a new update to Google Play Services, Android users may soon get the option to manage WhatsApp backups directly from their device settings.
However, both these features are still in the testing and development phase. Hopefully these will be released to all users in a future update. If this happens, checking online status and managing backups on WhatsApp will be easier than ever.
