WhatsApp is testing a new feature
According to a report, this platform owned by Meta will now start showing a green dot on the profile of any contact when they go online. With this, users will know without opening the chat which users in their contacts are online and now using the app. Apart from this, it is also being said that messaging platform WhatsApp is also testing a new feature to manage chat backup on Android app. This feature will help users to control storage.

Get online status information without opening chat
Feature tracker WABetaInfo has found that the messaging platform is testing a new green dot feature. This makes it very easy to find out who is online and using WhatsApp. This feature is reportedly found in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.24.5 for Android. If users in your contacts are online, a green dot will appear over their profile photo on the screen.

Green dot can be hidden from privacy settings
According to the information provided by the feature tracker, this green dot showing online status can also be hidden from privacy settings. A screenshot of this upcoming feature has also been shared. In which this feature looks similar to the green dot found in other apps like Facebook, Instagram and Slack. This upcoming feature will help users see who is available to chat in real time. It is speculated that the new green dot will replace the online text labels currently available in WhatsApp.

Another feature is being tested
Apart from this, WhatsApp is also working on another feature. It is testing a dedicated in-app backup management section. This will allow users to view, delete, and duplicate previous backups to free up storage space. This feature is currently in the testing phase.
