In this festival, all mothers observe Nirjala fast for the happiness, prosperity and long life of their sons. This festival is celebrated not for one day but for 3 days, which starts with Nahay-Khay and ends with Paran. Exact date of Jitiya festival
According to Hindu calendar, Jitiya festival will start from 7:59 am on October 3, which will end on October 4 at 5:51 am. However, the festival has started from October 2, where today all the mothers will follow the tradition of Nahay-Khay.
2nd October i.e. today all the mothers are taking bath early in the morning and preparing special dishes. In which there is a custom of making ragi roti, jingni vegetable, noni saag, kaande chokha and pumpkin vegetable. After this, on October 3, all the women will wake up before sunrise and prepare Thekua for their son. After that, she will take a resolution and keep the fast as soon as the morning dawns. Then she will break the fast on 4th October. According to religious experts, the right time to break the fast will start after 7.28 pm.

Some special things related to fasting
During Jitiya festival, all mothers should wear clean clothes and a gold locket threaded in red or yellow thread. According to religious belief, this locket is a symbol of the son, who protects the child from every challenge. It is believed that the son of a mother who wears this locket is not only protected from the evil eye but is also protected from untoward incidents in the future. Apart from this, all women should listen to the fast story on 3rd October, otherwise this fast will be considered incomplete.
Don't make this mistake even by mistake
1. While doing Parana, do not eat tamasic food i.e. garlic, onion and meat and fish. Instead eat satvik food. Eating Noni greens during Parana is considered auspicious.
2. During Jitiya festival, not only the mother but the entire family should avoid eating Tamasic food.
