Speaking to IANS, Kamal Akhtar said, “Whatever government there has been, whenever the governments have taken dictatorial decisions, Samajwadi Party leaders have fought against them. Be it Mulayam Singh Yadav, Janeshwar Mishra or Akhilesh Yadav, everyone has always worked to raise voice against injustice.”
He said that the respect that democracy fighters are getting today is important because these people have struggled a lot to save democracy. They went to jail and left their families. Today, Bharatiya Janata Party has governments in many states, but only in Uttar Pradesh, democracy fighters are being respected, not anywhere else. We have always respected him.
Comparing the current political situation with the Emergency, the SP MLA said, “At that time the Emergency was imposed openly, today the Emergency is undeclared. Today, oppression, excesses and injustice are being done to the people of the opposition. The opposition is being suppressed with the help of police and administration, so even today there is an emergency-like atmosphere.”
He said, “We have to show the youth that these democracy fighters are those who fought against dictatorship at that time. Now we have to be ready to save democracy by removing the undeclared emergency imposed in Uttar Pradesh and to form a Samajwadi Party government by removing the BJP.”
On the issue of Muslim representation in the PDA, he said, “Every party has its own decision. We do not need a certificate from anyone. Whenever the time has come, the Samajwadi Party has sent many people to the Legislative Council, given tickets in the Assembly and has also given representation in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.”
Akhtar said, “The decision taken now is the decision of the national leadership and it is paramount. We do not need proof from such people. Samajwadi Party has always supported the Dalits, backward classes and minorities, has always fought for them and will continue to do so in future also.”
SP MLA attacked BJP when Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Sunil Ambekar talked about implementing NRC again. He said that when BJP governments fail to fulfill the basic needs of the people, then he remembers such issues.
He said, “Today people need employment, good treatment. Farmers need MSP, fair price for their crops, fertiliser, good roads and protection from floods. When Bharatiya Janata Party fails to provide all these in its governments, it remembers CAA, remembers NRC, remembers UCC.”
