Where did India go against Ireland? These flaws will have to be rectified before the England tour

The Ireland tour proved to be disappointing for the Indian cricket team. Team India suffered a 2-0 defeat in the two-match T20 series played in Belfast. In the second match also, the Indian team lost the match by 1 run. With this, Ireland created history by winning the T20 International series against India for the first time. This defeat is also a big blow for captain Shreyas Iyer, because under his captaincy the team failed to win both the matches.

Now the Indian team is going to tour England, where a five-match T20 series will be played between the two teams. In such a situation, the team management will have to work on its many weaknesses as soon as possible. The first match of the series will be played on 1 July. After this, the second match will be held on 4th July, the third match will be held on 7th July, the fourth match will be held on 9th July and the last i.e. fifth match of the series will be held on 11th July.

Bad start and partnerships spoiled the game

The biggest reason for India’s defeat was the poor start in both the matches. While chasing the target of 183 runs in the first match, the team was reduced to 148 runs, while in the second match it could not even achieve the target of 155 runs. The early fall of early wickets in both the matches increased the pressure on the middle order. In the first match, the opening partnership was only 16 runs, while in the second match, the first wicket fell without adding any runs. Tilak Verma and Abhishek Sharma certainly struggled but they did not get support from any batsman from the other end. India could not make any big partnership due to continuous fall of wickets.

Questions raised on team selection and batting order

After the series defeat, questions have started being raised regarding team selection and batting order. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that India will need more technically sound specialist batsmen in conditions like England. He also raised questions on the strategy of keeping more all-rounders in the team than required. The performance of players like Washington Sundar and Suryansh Shedge was also not as per expectations.

We will have to overcome shortcomings to win in England

Indian batsmen were seen struggling time and again on the seam and bouncy pitches of Ireland. It is clear from this that the team still needs to work harder on its batting technique and strategy in foreign conditions. At the same time, even in fast bowling, Krishna could not leave much of an impact. However, young fast bowler Prince Yadav definitely caught everyone’s attention by taking three wickets in the second T20.

Now if India has to perform well against a strong team like England, then the team will have to bat strong from the beginning, make big partnerships, come up with the right team combination and also bowl better in the death overs. Only then will the Indian team be able to leave behind the disappointment of the Ireland tour and make a strong comeback.
