Assam Flood: Situation worsened in Assam due to swollen rivers, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to CM Himanta on phone.
Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma over phone and took information about the flood situation in some parts of the state. The officers provided this information. According to officials, Shah took stock of any possible damage caused by the swollen rivers in the state and assured all possible assistance from the central government to deal with the situation. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 16,000 people in 69 villages in four revenue circles of Dhemaji district have been affected by the floods.
Chief Minister Sharma had written on the social media platform ‘X’ on Sunday, “I have been continuously monitoring the situation since the flood situation arose in Dhemaji. We are deeply saddened by its impact on the lives of our people. We stand with them in this difficult time.
He said that the state government is mobilizing all its resources to ensure immediate safety of the affected families and give priority to their long-term rehabilitation. “We are leaving no stone unturned to minimize the impact of this flood on our people,” Sharma said.
Earlier, a spokesperson of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had said that train operations have been suspended on Rchipathar and Simen Chapri section of Dhemaji district due to flood and erosion affecting a bridge.
“This bridge, located on KM 408/11-13, was built in 1965 and was later converted into broad gauge,” NFR said in a statement on Sunday. The bridge was in a safe condition, but one of its pillars became unstable after a large part of the river bank was washed away during heavy rains.
